CONFEDERATE COMMUNICATION
AUGUST 19, 1864-8 a. m.
Lieutenant-General HARDEE,
Commanding Corps, &c.:
General Ferguson reports line of skirmishers advancing against him and Strahl; thought to be a heavy line of battle supporting. Am sending one brigade to Jonesborough; have sent Ferguson also. Don’s think it safe to send you more troops, except in case of necessity. Call upon General Lee for all of his reserves if necessary. General Walthall has two brigades in reserve.
